Does it run in a browser
No. Innoxia built it from scratch in Java and uses JavaFX for the interface. What you download is a .jar file, and what runs it is a Java runtime installed on your machine, not a browser.
The confusion is understandable. The game is text and menu driven, which is exactly what a browser game looks like from a screenshot, and its interface is styled like a web page. But the window it opens is a Java application window.
To play it you install Java, then either double click the .jar file or run it from a terminal. Source code is public on GitHub if you want to build it yourself.
What you get if you do install it
A text RPG where you are pulled into another dimension and the story is about getting home. Transformation systems sit at the centre, and the level of detail in them is why people put up with the install.
It is free and the source is open, which is not nothing.
If you wanted a browser game instead
The nearest thing on this site that actually runs without an install is Corruption of Champions, which shares the fantasy setting and the transformation focus and plays straight from the developer's own page. Trials in Tainted Space is the same idea in a science fiction setting.
Why so many sites get this wrong
The mislabelling is not random, it comes from how the game looks. The interface is built with JavaFX and styled to resemble a web page, with links, panels and text laid out exactly like a browser game. Take a screenshot and nobody could tell the difference.
Add that the game is text and menu driven, which is what browser games in this genre almost always are, and a listing written from screenshots rather than from playing it lands on the wrong answer every time.
We are labelling it plainly because the cost of the wrong answer is real. Someone on an iPhone reads that it plays in a browser, taps through, and finds a Java download that their device cannot run under any circumstances.
None of that is a criticism of the game. It is free, the source is public, and the transformation systems are as detailed as anything in the genre. It just needs a computer and an install, and you deserve to know that before you start.
